Fertility Medication FAQs
Once dispensed and delivered, medications cannot legally be returned.
Store the leuprolide acetate two-week kit at room temperature (below 77˚F). Do not freeze. Protect from light. It does not need to be refrigerated.
No. The vial contains 2.8 ml. This usually lasts 14 to 28 days, or one cycle, depending on your dosing.
Insulin syringes are used for leuprolide injections and will have units and ml. Both cc and ml are measures of volume.
1 cc = 1 ml
10 units = 0.1 ml = 0.1 cc
We do not recommend this practice in case treatment is delayed and many medications need to be used immediately once mixed.
All Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) medications must be refrigerated once mixed. Pregnyl is stable for 60 days after mixing. HCG and Novarel are stable for 30 days after mixing.
Gonal-f Multi-Dose vial is stable for 28 days after mixing and does not require refrigeration.
Most clinics will mix with 1 cc of diluent to dilute all of the powder, but you should always follow your clinic's instructions.
HCG injections may be given by a subcutaneous or intramuscular route, so you should always follow your clinic's instructions.
We provide a sharps container for disposal of your used needles and syringes. For information on disposal of your sharps waste container or for when you are traveling, please visit www.safeneedledisposal.org .
Progesterone oil is given intramuscularly and is usually injected with a 1-1/2-inch needle. A bigger-gauge needle is usually used to draw up the medication and then switched to a smaller-gauge needle for injection.
A long needle (1-1/2 inch to 2 inches) may be used for mixing and drawing up medications or for intramuscular injection.
A short needle (1/2 inch to 1 inch) is used for subcutaneous injections.
Insulin syringes (orange-tipped) are generally used for leuprolide injections.
