Fertility Medication FAQs

Can medications be returned?

Once dispensed and delivered, medications cannot legally be returned.

How is Leuprolide stored?

Store the Leuprolide Acetate 2 Week Kit at room temperature (below 77 degrees Fahrenheit). Do not freeze. Protect from light. It does not need to be refrigerated.

The leuprolide vial does not look full. Is this a problem?

No. The vial contains 2.8 mL. This usually lasts 14-28 days, or one cycle depending on your dosing.

What is the difference between units, CCs and MLs?

Insulin syringes are used for Leuprolide injections and will have both units and mls. CCs and MLs are both measures of volume.

1cc =1ml

10 units = 0.1ml = 0.1cc

Can I mix my medications in advance?

We do not recommend this practice in case treatment is delayed and many medications need to be used immediately once mixed.

All hCG mediations must be refrigerated once mixed.  Pregnyl is stable for 60 days after mixing.  hCG and Novarel are stable for 30 days after mixing.

Gonal-f Multi-Dose vial is stable for 30 days after mixing and does not require refrigeration.

How much diluent do I use to mix my hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Pregnyl, and Novarel and Pregnyl)?

Most clinics will mix with 1cc of diluent to dilute all of the powder but you should always follow your clinic’s instructions.

Is hCG given by subcutaneous or intramuscular route?

hCG injections may be given by subcutaneous or intramuscular route so you should always follow your clinic’s instructions.

What do I do with my used needles and syringes?

We provide a complimentary sharps container for disposal of your used needles and syringes. For information on disposal of your Sharps waste container or when you are traveling, please visit www.safeneedledisposal.org.

What needle size do I use to inject Progesterone Oil?

Progesterone oil is given intramuscularly and is usually injected with a 1½” needle. A bigger gauged needle is usually used to draw up the medication and then switched to a smaller gauged needle for injection.

Why did I receive several different needles and syringes?

A long needle (1½-2”) may be used for mixing and drawing up medications or for intramuscular injection.

A short needle (½-1”) is used for subcutaneous injections.

Insulin syringes (orange-tipped) are generally used for Leuprolide injections.

Being new to specialty pharmacy, I did not know what to expect. I have
however been pleasantly surprised! The courtesy and professionalism
of all staff I have interacted with has been exceptional! The customer
service agents I speak with are always very pleasant and ask all
pertinent questions, allowing them to perform their job with the utmost
efficiency. Additionally, the pharmacist and dietitian I have worked
with have really answered my questions and eased whatever fears or
questions I had in the moment.
